CCDGA vs Newcastle DGA

Published June 20, 2022 06:56

The annual clash between CCDGA and NDGA was played at Toronto Golf Club on Sunday 19 June under grey clouds which occasionally opened up with what, in light of recent torrential downpours, could only be described as nuisance showers. The golf course was damp (spelled muddy) in places as most are but the Toronto club did a great job in having the course available for us to play.

As usual the matches were played in great spirit, none more so than that between our Blake Cranston (who turned 12 the day before) and Newcastle's Jesse Linden, aged 11. Both shorter than the average driver, they both demonstrated a great love for the game and, importantly, respect for their opponent. Jesse opened up a lead of 3 holes on at least 2 occasions but Blake fought back each time to level the match which Jesse eventually claimed on the 18th green. The biggest thing about each of the boys in the club house following play was their smiles and there is little doubt both boys will be around the representative scene for many years to come.

Their were some new faces in both teams and some of these youngsters had never represented before but all seemed to enjoy the experience. At the end of the day their can only be one winner and in the 41 previous times the event has been played Newcastle have been what might be regarded as the dominant side. NOT THIS YEAR THOUGH! After the dust settled and the individual match results were tallied CCDGA prevailed winning the coveted Artie Mollett Shield 8.5 matches to 7.5.

Congratulations to all of our players, Justin Avendano, Beau Willett, Jacob Rennie, Shane Quick, Darren Wotherspoon, Jason Hyde, Dan Pedziekewicz, Noah Miller, James Linnert, Riley Stewart, Cooper wright, Harry Tanner, Alex Hughes, Declan Connolly - Jackson, Blake Cranston and Finlay Taylor on a great result.
