After some months of intense competition the 2014 Pennant series reached its conclusion on Sunday 21 September at Wyong Golf Club when Kooindah Waters faced Toukley in the "B" grade final and Mangrove Mt in the "C" grade final.
In the "B" grade final Kooindah took the first match 4 and 3. However, the Toukley lads did not give up without a fight and took the second match to the 17th hole before going down 2 and 1. That gave Kooindah an unbeatable lead and Kooindah Waters are the "B: grade champions for 2014.
In the "C" grade Kooindah found themselves up against a formidable team from Mangrove Mt. which had not tasted defeat all season and which was determined to go one step further and claim Mangrove's first title. In a particularly tight affair there was little more than a struck match between both sides and at no time during play was it possible to predict a winner as holes were exchanged between the groupings.
The Mountain men took the first match 1 up, Toukley closed out the second match 2 and 1 and it all came down to the last match on the course to determine who would claim the Pennant. Another particularly close encounter finally saw the decision go to Mangrove 2 and 1 to ensure the Pennant would make its way to the Mountain for the first time.
The matches were all played in the true spirit of the game and the camaraderie between the players in post match celebrations was encouraging to the District officials present.
