The annual clash against Lower North Coast DGA was played at Toukley over the weekend of 19 / 20 July and although on the Friday evening prior to the event Toukley recorded some 15 / 20 mil of rain the course played well and there were some great shots played by both sides.
On Saturday afternoon Port Macquarie's Will Martin was on fire on the back nine (the first nine played) recording 5 birdies and he and his partner wracked up a 3 / 2 win, the only match won by LNC in the better ball part of the competition. After day 1 CCDGA held a comfortable 5 matches to 1 advantage.
Sunday morning saw the teams go head to head in singles match play and the CCDGA Open players again recorded 5 wins which ,with the 5 from the previous day, gave CCDGA 10 of the 18 matches overall to claim a win in the series after losing narrowly to LNC at Kew last year.
Over past few years our juniors have given us strength in these competitions but this year they struggled a little but will get an opportunity to turn things around when we go to Musswellbrook for the Regional Championships over the weekend of 9 / 10 August.
