The 2017 Regional Championship, incorporating the Jim Baker Shield and the Sandy Cameron Shield, was played at Taree Golf Club over the weekend of 19 / 20 August. After spending a very cold & windy weekend in Goulburn the previous week it was hoped that the weather would be a little kinder but it was not to be. It was almost as if the cold, windy weather had been transferred from Goulburn to Taree and play on the Saturday was very difficult with players having to fashion shots on some holes that most players wouldn't even think of.
Jordie Garner, after finishing in 3rd place in Goulburn, proved too strong for the opposition and shot 2 very good rounds in the conditions to take out the Regional Championship with an aggregate score for 36 holes of 141, 1 over par, for a comfortable win by 3 shots from Tom Bateman (HRDGA) and Nathan Waters (LNCDGA). Corey Jones finished in 4th place on 146 for the 2 rounds.
Liam Gocher improved his score on the second day by a whopping 16 shots and captured the nett event for the day. Others also improved their scores dramatically but unfortunately for them it was all too little too late.
The Sandy Cameron Shield, a club team event, was won easily by the crack Shelly Beach quartet of Jordie Garner, Corey Jones, Tim O'Regan and James Swanson with daylight second.
Apart from the Junior 4 Way tournament, to be played at Breakers in November, the representative season is finished for 2017 and with wins over Hunter River DGA & Lower North Coast DGA, Jordie's placing in the Country Championship and follow up win in the Regionals and capturing the Sandy Cameron Shield all who represented CCDGA in 2017 should feel rightly proud.
Congratulations to all who represented this year!
