Over the weekend of 19/20 May the Association hosted the ACT Monaro DGA for the first time in a triennial series entered into 2016.
Played at The Springs, our guests proved too strong winning the Saturday foursomes 4 matches to 2 and backing up on Sunday to take 9 of the 12 matches for an overall result of 13 matches to 5.
CCDGA will not play ACT Monaro again until 2021 when we will travel to the ACT on a quest to recapture some lost pride.
The matches were played in great spirit and many new friends were made.
The weekend did unearth 2 new outstanding young talents called into the side as late replacements when a couple of our regular players found they were unavailable. Josh Hawkshaw from Toukley and Zachary Camelleri from Shelly Beach both showed the selectors enough to suggest that they will be integral parts of our team in years to come.
Both of these young boys played opponents far more experienced but showed true grit when they knuckled down and forced the boys from Canberra to grind out results. Both boys fitted into the team nicely and after play indicated that they had enjoyed the experience and learned a lot from the weekend.
Keep an eye out for both of these youngsters to shine over the next few years.
