Played at Wyong on Sunday 14 November on a course in great condition, a relatively small field enjoyed fine, if a little windy, weather and it took a 2 hole playoff to decide the 2021 District Champion.
Although Covid19 did not directly impact on the event the size of the field was reduced due to conflicting events being played as many deferred events, State wide, have been rescheduled in an attempt to get the 2021 program completed before the end of the year.
Due to Covid, most local clubs are still to finish their 2021 Club Championships and accordingly the 2021 Champion of Champions, which is usually played in conjunction with the District Singles, has been deferred to a date (still to be determined) in 2022. This postponement potentially reduced the size of the field for the Singles by up to 50 players.
Two par rounds by two of the Coasts young guns, Jordie Garner and Dylan Grogan, proved too strong for the rest of the field and the boys took to the course for a sudden death playoff. It took 2 holes before Dylan was able to grab the advantage and capture his first District title. The net winner of the Open section was Ethan Forsyth who took the title from Ty Purnell by a single shot.
CCDGA was most pleased with the number of Juniors playing in the event and a fine score of 74 saw rising star, Riley Millers, claim the Junior title by 4 shots from Josh Hawkshaw. Gosford's Greg Brien was the standout performer in the net event finishing 6 shots clear of his nearest rival, Michael Murray.
The golden oldies were well represented numerically and at the end of the day David Willett, who has been playing in this event since he was a junior, took the title by a single shot from David Brewer. Keeping things in the family Richard Brien, Greg's dad, won the Masters net trophy on a countback from Kenton Boyd.
The Association congratulates all of the winners and extends to all that played its appreciation of your continued support.
