The 2012 Zone 2 Regional Championships were hosted by CCDGA with the first round played at Shelly Beach on Saturday 18 August and the second round at Gosford on Sunday 19 August. 

Teams of 21 players from each of the 4 Districts, namely Central Coast, Hunter River, Lower North Coast and Newcastle competed, not only for the singles championship but also the highly coveted Jim Baker Shield. Additionally, teams of 4 players from the same club contested the Sandy Cameron Shield in both gross and net events with the worst score each day discarded.

In addition to the representative players entries were received from individuals from all over the zone and a quality field suggested some low scoring might be anticipated. Unfortunately, the weather was not too kind on the Saturday and very strong winds made scoring at Shelly Beach almost impossible. Sunday was a totally different day but the shock of Saturday carried over and many didn't seem able to recover.

Dave Willett, who has represented the CCDGA for more years than he cares to remember, was a very proud Dad when his young son, Beau, claimed the net event. Beau is only knee high to a grasshopper but it didn't seem to trouble him and his acceptance speech would have done a far more experienced player proud. Expect to see and hear a lot more of Beau in future years.
