Morisset Country Club, and balmy weather, greeted the local finalists in the 2012 Men's Fourball Championship on Sunday 5 August with the pair returning the best score on the day to progress to the State final to be played at Bonville Golf Club over 9 to 12 October.
In all 30 pairings took to the course and in a close finish Alex Grant and Steven Jones of Magenta Shores took the prize after returning 45 points.
The pairings of Neal O'Callaghan and Tim Winmill from Kooindah Waters and Leslie Speerin and Wayne Hitchcock from Morisset both returned scores of 44 points and after a close countback Neal and Tim were declared runners up. If by chance Alex and Steven are unable to play at Bonville Neal and Tim will be the first pair to be offered that spot in the State final.
43 points was a very popular score on the day with the next 4 pairings all having that score. In countback order these pairs were Garry Craig and Tim Smith from Shelly Beach, Darren Norford and Paul Foy from Toukley, Bruce Bourne and Matthew Wells from Kooindah Waters and David Kelly and Brian Alston from Toukley.
Previous finalists have all attested to what a great tournament (and time) the State final is and the golfing fraternity on the Coast will no doubt be hoping that Alex and Steven can bring home the trophy. Good luck at Bonville!
