Played annually for the Col Johnson Shield, this tournament is aimed at junior golfers approaching, but not yet there, representative play and is played in order to give them some experience of match play golf.
Teams of 6 players, boys and girls, represent their respective Districts (CCDGA, Hunter River DGA, Lower North Coast DGA and Newcastle DGA) and play 3 nine hole matches over the course of the weekend.
CCDGA hosted the event in 2024 at Breakers and unfortunately a late withdrawal from the Hunter River team put them behind the 8 ball as far as securing the Shield was concerned. The remaining members of the Hunter team tried their hardest to secure sufficient points but faced an uphill battle one man down.
The competition between the other 3 teams was very close and in the end only 1 contest point and 1 individual match separated Newcastle and Lower North Coast. CCDGA finished with the same number of match points as LNC but with 1 less contest points. Can't get much closer than that. Newcastle DGA claimed the title for 2024.
