The 2013 Vardon Trophy, a competition contested over the full calendar year, gets under way for 2013 on the 20 January when the District Singles is played at Morisset Country Club.
The Vardon Trophy is an event designed to reward consistent play with the trophy going to the player with the best scoring average over the year. There is a Senior Vardon for players 18 years and over and a junior Vardon for players under 18. A Junior may win both the Senior and Junior Vardon.
In 2013 there are 14 Senior events and 19 Junior events. These are all denoted on the fixture list with a V (senior event) and/or JV (junior event)
To achieve balance in the averaging of scores all scores are based on a course rating of 70. Therefore a player returning a score of 77 on a course rated 72 has a Vardon score of 75 recorded. A score of 72 against a rating of 68 results in a score of 74 being recorded. It is essential that all scores are returned as any player failing to return his card has a Vardon score of 86 recorded which will obviously have a significant impact on his average score at year end.
Once a player contests 8 rounds he is eligible to have his worst score discarded. A player contesting 10 rounds may discard his worst two scores.
