CCDGA vs LNCDGA

The annual contest between the CCDGA and Lower North Coast DGA was played at Wyong Golf Club over the weekend of 6 & 7 July and the players were greeted by great weather and a golf course in surprisingly good condition given that only 3 or 4 days before  it was extremely wet following a week of wild weather. Our opponents appreciated the great effort by the Wyong Superintendent and his staff and also the house staff who did all they could to make them welcome.

In all 4 Shields, named in honour of stalwarts of the game from both Districts, are played for over the two days and CCDGA proved too strong for LNCDGA in all divisions and captured the four Shields this year.

Saturday 6 July saw a Senior / Junior and Master / Colt  combination for each District compete in Four Ball Match Play format and at the end of the day CCDGA had taken a handy 8 / 1 lead in the overall contest. A highlight of the day was a hole in one by long time representative of CCDGA, Dave Willett at the 13th hole. This was Dave's 6th ace in his long and distinguished career and one he cherishes as it has given him a slight lead on his long time friend Dave Corbett, a former CCDGA representative and now the Pro at Mangrove Mt. Sunday 7 July featured all 18 players from each side in head to head singles match play and a crisp winter morning had everyone looking for warm clothes to put on. The cooler weather seemed to suit the LNCDGA more than the locals and in the early stages of the day many of the locals found themselves down to their opponent and the local officials were glad that a handy lead had been established on Saturday. However, once the day warmed up the locals put their knowledge of the Wyong course to good advantage and ran out winners by a substantial margin.
