Earlier in the year it was decided to introduce a District Match Play Championship and the leading 16 players in the Singles Championship moved on to the Match Play which was played over a number of weeks.
Well known, long standing District Captain, Tony Lamaro, who stood down in 2013 after 15 consecutive years as Captain, had a penchant for the cut and thrust of Match Play and it was decided to name the event in his honour and present the winner with the Tony Lamaro Shield.
After a number of thrilling contests in the preliminary rounds Damien Chambers of Everglades and James Swanson of Shelly Beach met at Kooindah Waters on Sunday 13 April 2014 to determine who would have the honour of being the first to have his name engraved on the Shield. The match was a fairly even affair until late in the round when James managed to grab a lead and close out the match 3 and 1. Congratulations James on a fine victory.
